Honestly, there’s not much worse than the behaviours of those like Bill Roache’s in the instance above. Abuse victims “paying for it” because of behaviour in a past life? There’s only one thing that tells me about Mr Roache’s sex offending accusations: guilty.
Any form of victim blaming and shaming, or indeed; the blaming and shaming of not just the attacked victims, but anyone other than the sole perpetrator; whether it be parents on either side, or an outside influence — is drawing away from the important issue of the accountability of the attacker. Like Bill Roache here, who is trying to shift the blame – no matter how incredulous the excuse (‘past life’, really?) – to somehow remove his emotional guilt with what he’s done.
